NIU: your taxpayer number

What the NIU is, why you need it, and how to get it online for free.

What is the NIU?

The Numéro d’Identifiant Unique is your single taxpayer number, issued by the DGI (Direction Générale des Impôts). Banks, employers, tenders, business registration and many administrative files ask for it.

Get it online, free

  1. Go to the official DGI website (impots.cm) and open the tele-declaration space.
  2. Choose "Create an account", then "I am not yet registered" and "I am a natural person" (or company).
  3. Fill in the form with your CNI number, name, date and place of birth, address, profession, phone and email.
  4. Validate: your NIU is generated. Download your registration certificate (attestation d’immatriculation), which replaces the old taxpayer card.

Registration requests are free. Since April 2020 the service is online 24/7.

Tips

  • Use your own email and phone: you will need them to log in later.
  • At busy times the site can be slow: try early in the morning.
  • If the system shows an error, your local tax centre (centre des impôts) can help.
  • Some guides mention a digital stamp fee for certain certificates: check on the official site before paying anything, and never pay an intermediary.
